Electronic Technician

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:     

Performs specialized work of substantial variety and complexity.  May act as a consultant to the engineer.  Responsible for or assists with assignments requiring independent and individual contribution.  Assignments include the application of engineering technology for design, testing, and maintenance.  Designs and conducts evaluation tests and experiments or participates in developmental projects.  Assists in the design of new systems, processes, product or equipment and works in the development of concepts and designs which are unique or peculiar to client needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide engineering support to staff engineers as directed by a project engineer or the Director of Product Realization.
  • Perform incoming inspection on materials or components procured.
  • Build electro-mechanical assemblies as needed.
  • Perform testing on assemblies, and do failure analysis on failed assemblies.
  • Do electrical design of electromechanical assemblies using CAD and various other electrical design tools for product and test tooling.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • Read, interpret and create schematics.
  • Use of schematic capture tools – PCB layout experience
  • Detailed process understanding for electronic and PCB fabrication and assembly techniques.
  • Prototyping technologies and the advantages/disadvantages of each.

  • Operation of electronic measurement equipment such as DSOs, DVMs, function generators, power supplies, and other equipment as needs arise.

Embedded Software Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement embedded real-time software and firmware solutions to control hardware (e.g. microcontrollers).
  • Use appropriate tools for creating documentation for product designs and client information.
  • Use best methods and techniques for verifying and validating client’s products.
  • Support other areas of the company to deliver the highest possible value to our clients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Mechanical Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:     

Responsible for developing new electromechanical products that meet company quality standards and are delivered on time and within budget.  Assure that sound engineering principals coupled with project management methods are used in the new product process.  Properly document all activities and deliver quality documentation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop novel designs using basic engineering design fundamentals
  • Perform mechanical design, capture CAD geometry, perform mechanical analysis, and develop BOM’s with properly identified part selections
  • Lead development projects including schedule development, resource planning and budget management
  • Ability to setup test plans, conduct test efforts and create test reports for products under development
  • Support manufacturing with test fixture development, test programs and high level debug of products

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • Experience with mechanical and mechanism design.
  • Knowledge of component selection, including BOM and procurement processes
  • Documentation standards for product designs, test methods, and manufacturing processes.

New Product Introduction Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages the successful introduction of new products into production. Translates client requirements into product assembly documentation and programs for machine assembly Facilitates development and implementation of production quality plans. Assists with the build of first articles and prototypes. Processes change orders and deviations. Continuously works to reduce production cost while increasing throughput and quality.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, maintain and update assembly and test procedures and related data for both PCBA and final assembly products.
  • Use Lean manufacturing tools to set up production lines, including demand flow, line balancing and poke-yokes.
  • Establish robust quality plans based on risk assessments (PFMEA) for new products. Program pick and place machines from client supplied Gerber files. Identify needs and assist with development of production tooling and fixtures.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability and client feedback.

Quality Technician

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:     

This position exists to ensure the mechanical tools, mechanical measuring devices, limited life materials (adhesives, chemicals, compounds, etc), and workmanship training are maintained in a state of excellence and control at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Incoming Inspection material on product materials, Printed Circuit Boards, Sheet Metal Components, Cable Assemblies, Conformal Coated Board Assemblies and various components being received into Vergent Products System. Uses released drawings and calibrated measuring devices to verify compliance requirements. Records defect data when NonConforming material or product has been detected.

 

  • Manage Calibration Control and Recall of Tools, Manages calibration schedules tool collections from Production and Engineering areas. Schedules tool/device Pick-Up & Delivery with the calibration house. Calibrates torque drivers in house and maintains internal torque tool calibration records. Performs tool maintenance as needed.

 

  • Ensure Vergent Products is continuously in compliance with ESD standards and practices. Records test results and maintains records data base and schedules. Repairs and replaces ESD devices as needed.

 

  • Manages limited life materials that are used in products. Receives material, labels and assigns the next available number that is entered into the dashboard data base.

 

  • Perform product assembly First Article Inspections in the production areas, Box Build and PCBA shop.

 

  • May assist Quality Engineer or Director of Quality with tasks when needed.

Process Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:     

Provide leadership and direction for new and existing process development including project management and engineering of PCBA, Final Assembly, and Product Development processes for complex products using a whole systems approach to optimize throughput, quality, and cost objectives.

Manages the successful introduction of new products into production.  Translates client requirements into product assembly documentation and programs for machine assembly.  Facilitates the development and implementation of production quality plans.  Assists with the build of first articles and prototypes.  Processes change orders and deviations. Continuously works to reduce production cost while increasing throughput and quality. Supports current products already in full production.  Engages and educates production operators on best practices.

A Process Engineer could also be at an Associate or Senior level, depending on a subjective mix of years of experience, educational background, and the quality level at which the duties and responsibilities are fulfilled.  The level of the position is determined by the person’s manager.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, develop, and implement the Vergent Products Design for Excellence practices to prevent defects, achieve lower costs, and ensure supply.  Provide clients and internal designers with structured DfX feedback and recommendations using a standardized DfX process.  Develop the DfX capabilities of the company and our Clients.  
  • Support sales by representing Vergent Products Manufacturing capabilities to Clients and consult with clients to establish best practices for implementation of their product into the Vergent Products Production System.
  • Lead, develop, and implement advanced quality planning and execution practices leading to rework reduction and defect prevention for existing and new processes.  This includes, but is not limited to FMEA, Control Planning, Gauge R&R, DOE, SET Mistake proofing, Process Verification, and Validation, and Requirements Planning & Management.
  • Provide leadership and overall project management to address equipment selection and installation, facilitation, layout, workflow, process flow,  process quality planning/verification/validation, process characterization, process monitoring/control methods, production testing, material handling, tool selection, consumables, documentation (project, design, setup, operating, maintenance), training (engineers, operators/assemblers, maintenance techs), support operations (programming, software backup), and equipment service/maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers to implement ongoing cost reduction for existing products.  
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers to develop and script design improvement recommendations for clients, identify alternative components when needed, decode complex technical requirements, and resolve production technical problems.  
  • Create, maintain, and update assembly and test procedures and related data for both PCBA and final assembly products.  Use Lean manufacturing tools to set up production lines, including demand flow, line balancing, and poke-yokes. Program pick and place machines from client supplied Gerber files.  Identify needs and assist with the development of production tooling and fixtures.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce waste and increase yields.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely test, calibrate, diagnose, and repair to component level any electronic and/or electro-mechanical products from written documentation (procedures, schematics, etc).  Tasks and duties will vary according to the assignment and may include new production build, customer returns, warranty  products or incoming assemblies.
  • Identifies root cause of failures and fix defective products.  Report actual and potential quality issues for corrective/preventative action.
  • Manages time and resources to ensure on-time delivery of product at or below standard times without direct supervision.
  • Completes work according to relevant standards (IPC).  Provide training and auditing of production personnel to ensure relevant standards are met.
  • Makes recommendations to improve quality, increase productivity, manufacturability, or reduce cost.

Assembles, tests, and inspects simple to complex electronic and electro-mechanical products in a contract manufacturing team-based environment using established procedures.

  • Safely assembles, tests, and inspects electronic and electro-mechanical products from written instructions.  Tasks and duties will vary according to the product and assignment.
  • Assures no workmanship or material defects passed downstream resulting in a defective free product delivered to the client.   Report actual and potential quality issues for corrective/preventative action.
  • Manages self to ensure on-time delivery of product at or below standard times under direct supervision.
  • Manages self in the execution of their personal training plan to ensure they are trained to perform assigned work.
