Process Engineer

Job Description

COMPANY SUMMARY:

Vergent Products (www.vergentproducts.com) is a dynamic and growing company in Loveland, Colorado that creates and produces electro-mechanical products while providing freedom for its employees to achieve their goals in an enjoyable environment.   We offer our clients a broad range of services for product realization including product conceptualization, design, prototyping, regulatory certification, manufacturing, and warranty service.

JOB SUMMARY:     

Provide leadership and direction for new and existing process development including project management and engineering of PCBA, Final Assembly, and Product Development processes for complex products using a whole systems approach to optimize throughput, quality, and cost objectives.

Manages the successful introduction of new products into production.  Translates client requirements into product assembly documentation and programs for machine assembly.  Facilitates the development and implementation of production quality plans.  Assists with the build of first articles and prototypes.  Processes change orders and deviations. Continuously works to reduce production cost while increasing throughput and quality. Supports current products already in full production.  Engages and educates production operators on best practices.

A Process Engineer could also be at an Associate or Senior level, depending on a subjective mix of years of experience, educational background, and the quality level at which the duties and responsibilities are fulfilled.  The level of the position is determined by the person’s manager.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, develop, and implement the Vergent Products Design for Excellence practices to prevent defects, achieve lower costs, and ensure supply.  Provide clients and internal designers with structured DfX feedback and recommendations using a standardized DfX process.  Develop the DfX capabilities of the company and our Clients.  
  • Support sales by representing Vergent Products Manufacturing capabilities to Clients and consult with clients to establish best practices for implementation of their product into the Vergent Products Production System.
  • Lead, develop, and implement advanced quality planning and execution practices leading to rework reduction and defect prevention for existing and new processes.  This includes, but is not limited to FMEA, Control Planning, Gauge R&R, DOE, SET Mistake proofing, Process Verification, and Validation, and Requirements Planning & Management.
  • Provide leadership and overall project management to address equipment selection and installation, facilitation, layout, workflow, process flow,  process quality planning/verification/validation, process characterization, process monitoring/control methods, production testing, material handling, tool selection, consumables, documentation (project, design, setup, operating, maintenance), training (engineers, operators/assemblers, maintenance techs), support operations (programming, software backup), and equipment service/maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers to implement ongoing cost reduction for existing products.  
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers to develop and script design improvement recommendations for clients, identify alternative components when needed, decode complex technical requirements, and resolve production technical problems.  
  • Create, maintain, and update assembly and test procedures and related data for both PCBA and final assembly products.  Use Lean manufacturing tools to set up production lines, including demand flow, line balancing, and poke-yokes. Program pick and place machines from client supplied Gerber files.  Identify needs and assist with the development of production tooling and fixtures.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce waste and increase yields.

SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:

  • All interaction with clients is effective, appropriate, and responsive with brand congruence.
  • Ensure Dfx results in real value to clients and Vergent Products.
  • Deliver real cost reductions resulting in both reduced price and higher profitability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • BS or equivalent in mechanical, electronics or industrial engineering
  • Strong project definition and management skill with a demonstrated track record of on-time under-budget execution.  
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and drive deep root cause corrective/preventative action.  Able to model and teach problem-solving processes.
  • Effective application of Advanced Quality Planning including Dfx, PFMEA, Process Control Plans, Gage R&R, DOE, and SET.
  • Advanced Manufacturing Methods including Demand Flow Technology, JIT, 6S, Total Productive Maintenance, Mistake-Proofing, Setup Reduction, Automation, Supply Chain integration, and FDA Verification and Validation.

Electronic Technician

Job Description

Assembles and tests simple to complex electronic and electro-mechanical products in a contract manufacturing team based environment using established procedures.

3   Expert Technician

     (Specialized or Lab with continuous process improvement)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely test, calibrate, diagnose, and repair to component level any electronic and/or electro-mechanical products from written documentation (procedures, schematics, etc).  Tasks and duties will vary according to the assignment and may include new production build, customer returns, warranty  products or incoming assemblies.
  • Identifies root cause of failures and fix defective products.  Report actual and potential quality issues for corrective/preventative action.
  • Manages time and resources to ensure on-time delivery of product at or below standard times without direct supervision.
  • Completes work according to relevant standards (IPC).  Provide training and auditing of production personnel to ensure relevant standards are met.
  • Makes recommendations to improve quality, increase productivity, manufacturability, or reduce cost.
  • Trains and directs others to carry out established procedures.
  • Performs deep component level troubleshooting from theory of operation and schematics.  Performs 2nd order root cause failure analysis.
  • Performs defined maintenance procedures on complex machines and test equipment.
  • Sets up new products in existing processes (simple machine programming or recipe selection).
  • Evaluates alternative processes, tools and equipment for manufacturing and makes recommendations to improve production procedures.
  • Implements recommendations to improve quality, increase productivity, manufacturability, or reduce cost.  Work with production to achieve zero manufacturing defects and field failures.
  • Builds complex prototypes from customer/designer documents.
  • Creates VERGENT test procedures or equipment from customer/designer documents or specifications.
  • Defines preventative maintenance requirements and procedures for equipment according to Total Productive Maintenance principles.
  •  Identifies quality trends from production or warranty events (without direction) then leads formal process improvement efforts and corrective/preventative action to change work practices using established Quality System procedures.
  • Translates industry best practices and applicable standards into VERGENT procedures and methods.
